Neoceratodus forsteri…

Started my newest tattoo today, as a reward for myself for hitting my goal weight recently. I’ve always loved the design of Japanese Koi tattoos, but I’m not much of a fan of koi! Anything related to carp doesn’t really get me that excited (as they’re a common fast breeding pest all over the world, including here in AU!).

Neoceratodus forsteri (Australian lungfish)
Pseudomugil signifer (Pacific Blue Eyes)
Potamogeton crispus (Native Brisbane plants)

FISH (list)

Random fast post, but I wanted to blurt out something about fish, so here I go!

1. I plan on doing some posts soon about fish. I’m thinking either ‘Setting up your first Aquarium’, or “Totally awesome fish I love and how to keep them!” Which is better? I do not know! Other ideas are welcome. =)

2. I felt like making a list of all the species I own, so here goes.

Cichlids:
Flowerhorn (male, American cichlid hybrid)
Neolamprologus ornatopinnis (Pair, Tanganyikan cichlids, African)
Neolamprologus caudopunctatis (Pair, Tanganyikan cichlids, African)
Red Jewel Cichlids (African River cichlids, large batch of babies, growing up tank)
Festae (male and maybe a few females, large aggressive American cichlid, growing up tank)

Random guppies (male)
Green Swordtails (caught feral in local creeks, males and females)

Loaches (these are fish I’m longterm babysitting, not really a loach fan):
Gold sucking loach
Pakistani loach
Khulii loaches

Big Dinner!

Got hit with a massive urge to cook today, so I popped over to the supermarket, picked up some stuff and got to cooking!

I did a ‘four course’ dinner of sorts:

Salad, cheese and crackers
Lentil soup with ham
Pumpkin/Potato mash and Grilled Salmon
Frozen Yoghurt

She’s a vixen….

One thing I haven’t chatted a tonne about  here is my love of ‘dead things’. I love taxidermy, and since there’s very little in the way of resources for learning (other than vollunteer work at museums, which I plan to do when I have the free time) I’m left learning on my own, with ‘found’ objects.

My most recent found object was a young female fox (vixen) that a friend SMS’d me about this morning. Foxes are feral here in AU and therefor not protected, and a pretty good find at that! I headed down the road to grab her and brought her home. I don’t have any tanning supplies on hand but had no room to put her in the freezer whole so I had no choice but to get her skinned (working on a case skinning, meaning I skin all the way down to the toes and leave everything intact that I can) so that she’d back into the freezer better.

I didn’t fully skin the tail or the feet below the ankle yet as I need to pick up some better tools, and the skin needs some de-fleshing and de-fatting once I have the correct tools as well. VERY fatty fox!

Fair warning, photos are not for the faint of heart or easily queasy -
